I have always been an artist, but never really had a muse. My inspiration came late last year when a little puppy entered my life. Lori had just come home with Moki, a black lab/golden retriever mix from Canine Companions for Independence. Lori was volunteering her time, her home and her pocketbook (not to mention countless socks) to raise Moki to be a helper dog for someone in need.
In the 15 months we had her, Moki went from tiny little puppy with skunk breath to a beautiful black dog with equally stinky breath. Moki was a smart, silly, goofy, ornery, stubborn, but most of all, loving puppy. She enjoyed going to school each day with Lori, running on the beach and digging in the sand, and couldn't get enough of stealing socks and playing keep-away.
In May of 2009, we turned our baby back in to CCI. She stayed up at the campus in advanced training for 9 months. Finally, she was paired up with her new friend who she was going to take care of. Unfortunately, after about a month, Moki developed a fear of the wheelchair lift in her new friend's van. Earlier this year, Moki was returned to us, now as a pet. She has since been certified as a therapy dog, and now can enjoy an easy life with us, still filled with stolen socks, runs on the beach and plenty of shredded newspapers.
Moki was the inspiration for MokiPoki Designs. We offer one-of-a-kind pen and ink and watercolor drawings, prints and greeting cards for all dog lovers. Custom drawings are also available, just let us know what you need. We'd love to hear from you, so please let us know what you think!
